Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, recovering from a lost first set to beat French Open champion Alexander Zverev 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3, 6-4 in a bruising four-set final.

Clinical On Grass

The world number one was at his clinical best, hitting 58 winners against only 25 unforced errors in three hours and 46 minutes on Centre Court. It was his fifth Grand Slam crown and first since lifting the trophy at the All England Club 12 months ago. The 24-year-old now boasts a 44-3 win-loss record this year after his sixth title of the season.

Zverev’s Near Miss

Zverev, bidding to become the first German man to win the trophy since Michael Stich in 1991, took the only set Sinner has dropped in seven meetings between the pair but could not snap a now 10-match losing streak against the Italian. He will climb above rival Carlos Alcaraz to second in the ATP rankings on Monday. Sinner, for his part, sits just two majors behind the injured Alcaraz.
