In a statement released beneath a wall calendar that has not been flipped since April, The 2weeker Administration confirmed on Saturday what observers had long suspected: the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is, once again, good for approximately two weeks.

It has now been good for approximately two weeks for the better part of a season.

A fortnight, renewed

The arrangement began on 8 April 2026 as a tidy, fourteen-day pause, brokered by Pakistan and described at the time as a “temporary ceasefire for two weeks.” True to the spirit of the thing, it was then extended, redeclared as an indefinite ceasefire, collapsed at the Islamabad talks, was papered over with something called the Islamabad Memorandum, and — when fighting resumed on 8 July — was declared over by President Trump on 7 July before being walked back the following morning as not the sort of thing that would lead to long-term action.

“The continuity is the point,” said a senior official who asked not to be named because he was, in fact, a calendar. “Every few weeks someone announces the truce is finished. Then someone announces it is not. Then someone announces it is two weeks. The machinery is functioning exactly as designed.”

The strait remains straitened

Iran, for its part, has spent the intervening fortnights rehearsing a different kind of patience — warning commercial vessels to use pre-approved routes through the Strait of Hormuz and, on 6–7 July, firing at three of them. Analysts describe this as an attempt to collect fees on ships passing through, which is a normal thing one state does to another’s commerce and not, officials stressed, a reason to update the fortnight count.

The United States has responded with strikes on Iranian assets, which is also a normal thing, and which has in no way interfered with the regular publication of a fresh two-week estimate.
